Elle editor takes a bow

Elle South Africa editor, Jacqueline Myburgh Chemaly, will be leaving her position at the end of the year to pursue personal interests, Johncom Magazine Division announced on Thursday, 3 August 2006. A mutual agreement gives Johncom four months to find a replacement.

"My period as editor of Elle has been wonderful and it has been a privilege to work with the remarkable team that have seen the magazine through to its 10th birthday, given it a beautiful redesign and seen the circulation and revenue of the magazine grow consistently," says Myburgh Chemaly.

"However, I am excited to be moving onto new projects and wish the team at Elle all the best for the future."

Mike Tissong, general manager of Johncom Magazine Division, says, "As editor, Jacquie has projected the Elle brand very positively. We will miss her. We wish her well in whatever she chooses to do in future,"

According to Erika Alberts, business unit head of Johncom Consumer Magazine Division, Myburgh Chemaly has contributed significantly to the strategic growth of Elle South Africa. "As part of the Elle team, Jacqueline worked towards satisfying the expectations of the South African Elle reader whilst maintaining Elle's unique sophisticated tone.

"Though we'll miss our daily interaction with Jacqueline as editor, the team has been positioned well to maintain the growth of Elle South Africa by focusing on fashion, beauty and style - with a brain."

Myburgh Chemaly will remain available to Johncom as an editorial consultant.
