Stake in motoring magazine fortifies RS&P's position

Magazine publishers Ramsay, Son & Parker (RS&P) continues to consolidate its foothold in the motoring magazine sector with the recent announcement of the purchase of a 50% shareholding in Leisure Wheels. The addition of Leisure Wheels, with its strong 4x4 and SUV focus, gives the company an even broader range of motoring content.

The publication joins RS&P's flagship title and market leader, Car, and Wiel (initially announced as La't Wiel), to be launched in September.

"We believe there is considerable potential in this particular market and we intend to develop the synergies between Leisure Wheels and both Car and Getaway," says RS&P's MD, Harold Eedes.

Leisure Wheels will continue to be produced by the Randburg-based team of Jannie Herbst and Johann van Loggerenberg, but the magazine will benefit from Ramsay, Son & Parker's resources in terms of circulation, marketing and ad sales, as well as the editorial expertise that has made award winners of the magazines in the RS&P stable.

"We are heartened that that RS&P has such confidence in our team's ability that it has thrown its weight behind us," comments Herbst, Leisure Wheels' managing editor. "We believe our readers and advertisers will benefit from the new arrangement."

The announcement follows a similar one earlier in May, in which RS&P made it known it had purchased WielWegbreek, a sister title to Getaway, is to be launched in June.
