In her State of the Province address - due to be broadcast live by Radio 702 but cancelled as the speech was delayed for two hours - Premier Nomvula Mokonyane told the media that several 'mega-projects' will be undertaken. These include:
• Separating the Health and Social Development departments;
• Creating a "smart city" as Nasrec;
• Establishing a climate innovation centre;
• Building the Gauteng Automotive Training Academy in partnership with Nissan;
• Boosting the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency;
• Establishing township development hubs.

The township hubs will comprise the following clusters:
• An automotive cluster to maintain, repair and sell parts for vehicles;
• A services cluster will provide a range of services from hair styling to laundry services;
• A light manufacturing cluster to make furniture, cleaning chemicals, clothing, textiles and fast-moving consumer goods;
