"This was an easy decision for us to make," explains Tanya van Schalkwyk, KFC spokesperson, "KFC head office in the US has participated in similar initiatives to repair local roads. The bad state of Johannesburg's roads is issue that not only affects our customers, but it will affect thousands of fans coming in June. It's time to take pride in our city and showcase Johannesburg as a world-class African city!"

"We are also challenging other companies, communities and associations to donate money or services to the CoJ to ensure that everyone can travel safely on Johannesburg roads," concludes van Schalkwyk.

POTHOLES-
Hi there,

Well done on taking the initiative!

I hope you don't mind, I have posted this article on the facebook group "Potholes Driving us Potty". the aim of the group is to get people to take action instead of just complaining - they are supplied with the correct contact numbers and e-mail addresses - they need to take action and report the potholes. so far, we have had a fantstic response from various roads agencies who have heeded our call and have fixed the reported potholes and broken traffic lights.

Sheer madness-
Has KFC gone quite potty. The business of fixing potholes is that of local, provincial and national government - not the private sector. That's why we pay our rates and taxes. I'm not impressed - does KFC intend to put up branding at every pothole fixed with their money? This is just plain silly and KFC are clearly making too much profit if they are supporting nothing more than sheer mismanagement by our roads agencies. Posted on 8 Mar 2010 14:43

..they make people heavier, roads can't handle, makes sense. Posted on 8 Mar 2010 14:53

Why do we pay rates and taxes, vat & personal tax?-
I am flabbergasted that the roads agency should even ask the community and business to get involved in fixing the potholes. Where has the money gone which should have been budgeted for road maintenance? Business in South Africa pays tax & municipal levies, everyone with a job pays tax, those who are registered and those who are not also pays tax, because everyone pays vat and home owners pay rates and taxes. What happens to the toll monies collected at the numerous expensive toll gates around the country? Posted on 8 Mar 2010 16:57

Can we stop paying rates and taxes now?-
If the private sector has to help fix the potholes, then what do we pay rates and taxes for? New BMW's?
KFC are idiots for giving money to fix potholes - R200,000.00 is not going to do much - it will take billions to fix our roads. Posted on 8 Mar 2010 17:18
