In appreciation of Sampson's loyal support as a client of the bank, CEO David Polkinghorne and Group CEO Alan Olivier visited her to pay tribute to her life within South Africa's history.

"Over time Kruger Rands have proven to be an outstanding store of value and investment. And so too Mrs Sampson is the epitome of a valuable life experience," says Polkinghorne. "Having lived through the world's chaotic yet ultimately inspiring past century, she has witnessed such diverse events as the devastation of two World Wars, life-altering technological revolution, the imprisonment and release of Nelson Mandela and the emergence of a new South African democracy The bank certainly appreciates Mrs Sampson, she is an inspiration to us all,"

Over the past 100 years, Grindrod, a JSE-listed shipping and logistics holding company, has remained adaptable, grown in size and stature and matured and modernised its operations as the decades required. It has remained flexible in an ever-changing political, technological and economic landscape, adopting innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to all its undertakings.
