Academic expansion for Johnnic books

Van Schaik Bookstore has been acquired by the Johnnic Communication Group, and joined Exclusive Books and the African Operations on 1 October in the group's book retail stable.

Van Schaik Bookstore, a national network of academic bookstores, started trading in Pretoria on 1 July 1914 and was acquired by Via Afrika Limited, a Media24 subsidiary, in 1986. Currently Van Schaik Bookstore consists of 44 permanent bookstores plus an additional seven seasonal outlets, servicing primarily residential and distance education universities, technikons, colleges and other tertiary institutions.

Dirk Uys, CEO of Van Schaik Bookstore, says they're looking forward to the expansion, noting that: "...[A]ll operations will continue without any changes, except that we will be reporting to new shareholders."
