ForgeAhead, in partnership with the Department of Communications and several sponsors are highlighting African innovation in the Annual African ICT Achievers Awards. The awards recognize excellence among ICT professionals who have made a significant contribution to the ICT sector and encourage the continued growth of black entrepreneurship in this sector.
Jane Mosebi, managing director of ForgeAhead, says: "We are seeing a multitude of new innovations coming to light. It seems as though the African continent is coming to life in terms of ICT development and it is very exciting to be part of this growth process."
Finalists in the category for Most Innovative ICT Company in Africa have been announced. Finalists were judged on whether it is a home-grown innovation, whether the company has involved local people and companies in the implementation of this innovation and if it's a proven innovative solution for the African market, among other criteria.
The finalists in this category are: The Bluebox, a self funded, 100% South African, Software Development business; the Naledi3d Factory, which focuses on the development of visual learning content using Virtual Reality (VR); and Sentech, an independent state-owned enterprise whose signal distribution network forms the backbone of broadcasting in South Africa.
