A broader cast for Design Indaba

Design Indaba casts a wider net by launching simulcast sessions that will be broadcast to young designers.

For the first time at the Design Indaba Event in Cape Town (CTICC 22-24 February 2006), emerging designers, design students and other young people in creative fields are invited to experience the Design Indaba three-day conference in its entirety.

The team at Design Indaba believes that design education should be accessible to emerging creatives, which is why the Young Designers Simulcast has been introduced for under-25s only.

"We appreciate that the more people are exposed to innovative and creative ideas the more significant the impact and contribution of creativity and design will have on the economy," says Zahira Asmal, Design Indaba's marketing manager. "This is particularly relevant in South Africa."

The simulcast will involve a live broadcast from the main plenary session to a second auditorium designed to accommodate up to 600 delegates at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. To ensure that the students and young designers are able to access speakers, short, informal "chat" sessions will be planned during the course of and at the end of each day at the Retrospective Lounge. This entire event is on offer at the substantially reduced cost of just R750.

Design schools and other tertiary institutions that have creative departments should take the opportunity to register their students to attend the Young Designers Simulcast. The event affords access to the world's top design specialists where this was not previously possible nor accessible elsewhere.

"Advertising agencies and design studios are satiated with young creatives, client service and media executives. They will be blown away by the Design Indaba experience, and leave inspired to make big things happen in their careers," says Asmal. "I am hoping that managing directors of these agencies see the value of the experience not only to their business but to their clients as well and register their young creative minds for the Young Designers Simulcast."
