Beware of bogus sellers

As always, we have a very mixed bag for you today, with the government issuing a warning regarding bogus sellers of land; as always, there is someone ready to cash in and take from the gullible and the needy. On an even sadder note, it is reported that floods in Mpumalanga are known to have claimed six lives. We at Bizcommunity.com extend our condolences to the families of the victims.

Then we have the mystery ship, which is apparently not much of a mystery after all; it seems to be very much a case of Ship? What ship? - and the minister is not happy, and we also have Pravin Gordhan accusing the Limpopo provincial government of sabotaging service delivery in the province.

Oh, and in passing, the ANCYL wants, among other things, a "heavy tax" on those rich people who flash their wealth around. So, from now on, keep that R250 000 Breitling watch covered! OK?

Tolls unfair? No way! Well, so says Sanral, which on the upside is to be bailed out by the government, but on the downside is facing a double whammy from FF+ and the DA over trying to advertise and sell toll tags and allegedly setting up illegal roadblocks.

[Brian Berkman: contributing editor, travel] Red Carnation Hotels take their Guest Preference Forms seriously. Would you like foam or feather pillows; neck and back support pillows; an ironing board; a bed board; extra hangers or an extra bed? Would you like a yoga map and an instructive DVD or a fax/copier/printer? Then there's the menu of extras available at the tick of a box and the swipe of a credit card - rose petals and chocolate dipped strawberries? Check... Read more >>

We are Beautiful Losers: when art meets music
[Sindy Peters] Art and music collided in Woodstock recently at We Are Beautiful Losers #2, hosted at /A Word of Art in Woodstock. Derelict Woodstock is still coined as "up and coming"; I'd like to think she's just about ready to be crowned a fully fledged member of the Cape Town creativity club; well, that's if Ricky-Lee Gordon, aka Freddy Sam, has anything to do with it. Enter at your own risk. Read more >>

Punk at heart
[Ruth Cooper] Punk arises in times of strife, when the status quo needs a serious kick in the crotch and a spit in the face; not surprising then that there was a small, but dedicated, group of punk rockers playing in southern Africa at the height of the apartheid madness in the 70s and 80s. Daring life and "freedom" to question and protest the unjust system. Read more >>

A confusing comedy at Maynardville
[John Cooper] Some serious Googling the day before and then a quick read of the programme notes just before "curtain-up" (not that there is a curtain, but you know what I mean) were essential prerequisites for my being able to follow the riotous twists and turns of William Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors, this summer season's offering at the Maynardville open-air theatre.
