Okay, so I'm thinking here, I'm pretty prepared for the threatened power cuts and approaching winter... I've made peace with the fact that I will have to forgo my electric blankie at times and we will be reading more and watching less TV (never a problem in my family, thankfully), we've got the hot water bottles lined up, the extra gas bottles for cooking, tin kettle for boiling water on gas, extra big pots, extra battery life for my laptop, battery operated lights, more tinned food and pasta than usual... but I didn't think I would need to be proficient in numbers as well! However, calculating who had enough battery power left on their laptops this morning and which power zone we fall into in Joburg (who will have power when?) and when the office (experiencing power cuts and surges every 15 minutes or so like a failing disco strobe light) will have the generator, installed last week, active, so we know in which direction to travel in or find a friendly hotel or other coffee shop to plug into, was a feat near impossible. Through no design, more like sheer luck, we've managed to have staff who live on opposite ends of the city meaning at least some of us had power at some point, so your ezine this morning comes to you courtesy of a few rude words, freezing fingers, caffeine highs and not an inordinate amount of laughter accompanying a dash of 'we will survive' hummed bravely! Just hope we can maintain our spirits through the inevitable late deadlines, traffic jams and freezing weather that winter gave us a hint of this weekend!
Keep warm!
