I have experience in broadcast media, social media and I blog as well. I believe in open an free knowledge for all and I think on-line presence is important especially for preserving our local languages and history. Hence I'm advocating for an on-line increase of our local languages.
I'm in the process of completing my BA communications degree with Unisa and I'm also currently working for Wikimedia South Africa which runs Wikipedia, a NPO and an online encyclopaedia.
Since most Wikipedia articles are written in English about Europe and the U.S, our aim really is to increase African content into Wikipedia and to encourage the use of local languages as well. One of the projects I've conceptualised is "Joburgpedia" which aims to increase Wikipedia coverage of Johannesburg's buildings with historical and heritage significance.
I freelance for reached media, a news agency specialising in covering (CSI) Corporate Social Investments news, however my experience spans from studying far Eastern arts and culture in Indonesia, through an exchange scholarship program. Returning back to South Africa, I worked at the SABC as a producer on prime time shows which entailed conceptualising and creating content for different LSM groups as well as participating actively on pre and post production meetings and planning of OBs, as well as report writing and using the station's website and social media to interact with my audience was part of my responsibilities.
