I think writing about oneself is one of the hardest tasks. I mean its not like you are selling girl scout cookies or a concept to a client. Where would one start? I am a Senior Designer, Creative and Art Director with social media and lots of web experience, 14 years to be exact? I joined the digital playground the days our modems serenaded us into the World Wide Web and the mobile phone, so heavy, could drop your pants. I count myself lucky! I lived through these times through the millennium and saw the dawn of a new age in our industry where socially networking, more advanced online web solutions and the printing industry revolutionised our world as we know it. Wow! Awesome!
I have always loved art. Main stream education teaches 'technique' but I have always been one to break free from creative restrictions. Please don't get me wrong I love the fine arts but I found the process very slow paced and that's when I discovered my love for mixed media and digital art.
I started my design career at 19 (33) in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal where I worked as a junior designer for a doctors organisation obtaining the experience I needed whilst studying visual communication part time at Unisa.
From there on I moved to greener pastures when offered a position at &ndCommunications, under the mentorship of Mandy Craucamp, a well-known Creative Director in the design industry here in South Africa. With her guidance, I saw the Pendoring Awards as well as the Loeries which were both an amazing great experience, twice, and my career just boomed. Mandy is currently the founder of &lify.
For five years after that I ran my own Design, Web and Social Media agency, called view18 (later; Vivant Graphique), with two partners - but I really missed being part of something bigger, something more rewarding. I have a need not just to be successful, but to do something great!
