With 20 years' experience in television actuality, Jon Pienaar has garnered a reputation as one of South Africa's most respected journalists. His awards include the CNN Journalist of the Year Award, Telkom ICT Award and the Citadel Words on Money Award. A former Carte Blanche producer, more recently Pienaar has been published in Business Day, Finweek, Brainstorm Magazine, and more. Together with Mandy de Waal he wrote the best selling cover feature for FinWeek in 2012.

With 20 years' experience in television production and feature films, Jon Pienaar has garnered a reputation as one of South Africa's most respected broadcast journalists. His awards include the CNN Journalist of the Year Award, Telkom ICT Award and the Citadel Words on Money Award. Formerly a regular producer for Carte Blanche, Pienaar has a strong background in journalism, writing and editing which enables him to bring maturity, experience and a strong aesthetic craftmanship to projects.
More recently Jonathan H. Pienaar has started writing and has been published in Business Day, Finweek, Brainstorm Magazine and JSE Magazine. Together with his writing partner Mandy de Waal he wrote the best selling cover feature for FinWeek for 2012 - "The Business of Pleasure".
Pienaar's ground breaking work includes a documentary series on Mark Shuttleworth's quest to be the first African in space; an expose on 'Kamp Staaldraad' - a training camp for the SA rugby team that included ritual humiliation; and a documentary insert on the internet bank hacking which made SA financial institutions change their 'net access policies.
Pienaar's portfolio of work for the business sector includes commercials and corporate videos for the likes of Guardian National Insurance, DStv, Price Waterhouse, M-Net Broadcast Services, Tracker Network, Lufthansa, M-Net (various on-air), ICL Computers, Coca-Cola, Software Futures, Resolution Health, Toyota/Lexus, Ubambo Holdings, Avroy Shlain, Ster-Kinekor, Phoenix Beer (Mauritius) and SABC Broadcast.
Pienaar edited the movie trailer for Tsotsi in collaboration with Gavin Hood, produced the documentary "The Making of Tsotsi"; co-wrote and edited the trailer for Bill Flynn's final movie 'Running Riot' (with Slabolepszy); and created "Go Open" a 13-part television series aired on SABC3 called "Go Open" which promoted the use of open source software.
Jonathan is inspired by the great filmmakers, from Francois Truffaut to Martin Scorcese. Writers he appreciates includes skeptic Professor Richard Wiseman, and the late but great Christopher Hitchens.
Today his focus is on becoming an award-winning and celebrated writer.
