Get ready for #DesignMonth! - 1 Feb 2016

By Leigh Andrews

Get ready for #DesignMonth! - Mon, 01 Feb 2016A whole month of 2016 has bitten the dust. We hope things are off to a good start for you and your biz.

We lead with the story that Grey Africa appointed Fran Luckin as its chief creative officer and speak exclusively to Luckin about her sparkling creative career thus far and the state of advertising on the continent, as well as where SA's falling behind in advertising trends.

Sticking with the topic of all that's trendy in 2016, Farren Roper offers insight into the top 10 social trends we can expect this year. Emojis, micro-video and personalised brand messaging are all on the front foot.

Looking further into the brand power of all things social media, I delved into the latest 'Gifoffyourass' fitness campaign from Virgin Active, and spoke to both the marketing and advertising teams involved.

Lastly, Varder Hulsbosch brings the idea of brand continuity to light by commenting on the new positioning from Johnnie Walker and cautions marketers that your loyal customers won't necessarily welcome a new brand message with open arms.

Lots to think about and broaden your marketing mindset this week.

PS: With Design Indaba just a few weeks away, February is Design Month on Bizcommunity. Look forward to exclusive design-centric interviews and thought leadership throughout the month, sure to expand your business-design thinking, and don't forget to join the conversation by using the hashtag #DesignMonth when you tweet us!
