Two winners in International Hotel School competition

Following their selection as finalists for the 'Hospitality Bootcamp' at the Gateway Hotel in Umhlanga, the five matric students were anxious to know which one of them had won the three year, R160 000 bursary to study full-time at The International Hotel School.

However, the judges, made up of a panel of International Hotel School management staff and invited guests, were unable to make up their minds, resulting in a hung jury over the matching eligibility of Dedre du Plessis and Nhlanhla Msweli.

However, with only one bursary and a deadlock, the marketing manager, Ruth Paulsen made phone calls to school's MD and a unique decision was made; another prize was awarded.

A three-year paid traineeship, at a leading hotel in Durban, where the student will be an employee and a student of The International Hotel School. The lucky recipient of this opportunity was Msweli, who cried tears of joy when the announcement was finally made. Du Plessis was equally emotional when she was awarded the three-year bursary to study full-time at The International Hotel School.

The national Bootcamp Bursary competition is a social responsibility project run annually by the school at its three campuses located in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape.
