Panama climate meeting to set tone for Durban
A statement from the Department of International Relations and Co-operation says that, "South Africa will convene informal sessions in Panama, including with stakeholders, to further contribute to a balanced and credible outcome in Durban." The meeting will take place from 1-7 October. Minister Nkoana-Mashabane will participate in the meeting in her capacity as incoming president of COP17.
At the meeting of the UNFCCC in Bonn, Germany, in June 2011, South Africa maintained a high level of transparency and inclusiveness by interacting with all major groupings, parties and stakeholders. Two open-ended dialogue sessions were organised in Bonn to provide a space for stakeholders to express their views and expectations for the Durban outcome.
