FlightSite wins a World Travel Award for innovation

Online travel agency, FlightSite, has been named Africa's Leading Online Travel Agency for 2014 at the World Travel Awards announced on Friday 5 September 2014. This is a major feather in the young company's cap as the World Travel Awards is voted for by travel and tourism professionals worldwide.

The award, however, is simply the tip of the iceberg when it comes to tangible successes for the e-tailer: It's experienced an impressive 30% growth year-on-year since it was founded in 2009, and was the first e-commerce travel provider to offer native apps across all devices. In March 2013, it also diversified its offering to cater for the B2B market with the launch of FlightSiteAgent. It is the first registered online travel provider that gives entrepreneurial South Africans access to competitive net air, hotel and car fares to sell onto others under their own brand, at no cost to them. The innovative e-tailer has also initiated a number of highly successful partnerships over the years, namely www.travellatitudeco.za for Investec and www.pnptravel.co.za for Pick n Pay in 2009 and 2010 respectively.

Rian Bornman, founding director of FlightSite, says, "We're honoured by this accolade as it proves we're on the right track to providing a high-quality, innovative online travel service for both consumers and entrepreneurs alike."

However, he's not one to rest on his laurels as notwithstanding its recent successes, there are a few notable developments up the company's sleeve too.

"From the end of September 2014, Pick n Pay Travel, will be launching in-store 'zones' for Pick n Pay across the country. The first of these will be at the new look Brackenfell store where customers will be able to walk in and book and pay for their discounted flights at a dedicated spot in the store. In the first quarter of 2015, ticketing for busses, plus events (sporting and otherwise) will also be launched," concludes Bornman.
