Insulate houses and save a power station

Retrofitting insulated ceilings, compact fluorescent light bulbs and heat-insulation cookers to existing low-income houses would be cheaper than building a new power station to meet South Africa's energy consumption according to a report by the Green Building Council of South Africa, according to a report on Business Day.
According to the Business Report report, the council says that a pilot project in Cate Manor had proved that significant amounts of energy could be saved by improving millions of low-income homes built over the past 18 years.
