The New Age (153,000 readers, according to AMPS) enjoyed R10,199,988 of government spending in 2013-2014,
says PoliticsWeb.
Sowetan (with 1,674,000 readers - more than 10 times more than
The New Age) got R10,434,476 - about R240,000 more to play with.
Daily Sun, on the other hand (with 5,351,000 readers - about 35 times more readers than
The New Age) - got R7,888,753. That's just over R2,300,000
less. And then there is the question of the adspend on newspapers with comparable readership figures to
The New Age, which enjoy a far smaller adspend. That's why
questions have been asked regarding the amount of adspend the government is channelling to the Gupta-owned paper.
