We know it's the time of goodwill to all etc, but it's difficult not feeling somewhat aggrieved at the SABC's antics regarding Jacob Zuma being booed at the Madiba memorial service.
Many, if not most, of us agree that the booing was not appropriate on such an occasion, but for the SABC to
censor what is a major story of the year doesn't help.
As Ed Herbst writes, the national broadcaster has a duty to provide the news - good and bad - since we are all forced to pay it licence fees - whether or not we ever watch it. It is betraying this country and its mandate when it fails to screen news such as the above. The hypocrisy is particularly notable since it took great pleasure in screening, repeatedly, and across all ethnic languages, Helen Zille being booed off stage on 1 November at the Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone by a rowdy crowd of bussed-in ANC supporters while Zuma looked on impassively.
On a happier note... Sid Peimer says there are a gazillion books on strategy, but he asks if someone can
please define it - though he likes the South African Navy's definition...
Africa awakens! Danette Breitenbach spoke to Ilse du Toit, a manager within the Strategy & Innovation practice at Deloitte Consulting about the
future of retail in Africa.
