It doesn't seem to matter
which government South Africa has. We, the media, must still constantly fight for our press freedom, without which we all suffer. Right now, there are two issues to worry about: the ANC-proposed
media tribunal, and the proposed amendments to the
Protection of Information Bill.
The South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF) has even resolved to work with other like-minded groups in a
campaign for public support for media freedom, with various newspapers and educational organisations pledging sums of money towards the campaign.
This is not a time for complacency. We must stand united to protect our democracy and our country.
