In other words, "Feel it, it is here!" - #phillip is the latest meme that's been making its way around the South African twittersphere, inspired by a caller in to Umhlobo Wenene FM last Thursday, 10 June 2010.
And indeed, the 2010 FIFA World Cup
is finally here and wow, have we shown the world what we can do! From the United We Shall Stand parade in Sandton last Wednesday, in which about 185 000 to 200 000 fans,
including myself, lined the streets to cheer on Bafana Bafana, to the kickoff concert on Thursday night, the opening ceremony and match on Friday and joyriding on the Gautrain, if you've not been feeling the 'gees' [Afrikaans for spirit], shame on you!
If you don't have tickets, head to your nearest Fan Fest or Fan Park to experience the indescribable vibe or even follow the excitement on Twitter (view the
Bizcommunity twitterfall).
Many thanks must go to my fellow media, both local and foreign, for your superb coverage of Africa's very first FIFA World Cup. You rock.
Ke naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaako!
