There are a few new words that have entered the informal business lexicon over the past few weeks, with choice appearances in headlines and newspaper copy as the media rattled SABC's closet until a few more skeletons appeared. We rounded up the best ones and came up with a few more; the first word up is... Snukification [Snoookificaashun]: the wide scale gagging of individuals within an organisation. Known to span organisational structures to include political commentators and journalists. Snukified: those individuals who have been gagged and who only speak out at commissions of inquiry or from a script prepared by the SABC newsroom. Snukiology: The lesser-known journalism discipline on how to run a newsroom to ensure that global attention is focused on your methods, generating news headlines worldwide. Snukkered: When you manage to get your bosses to support you even when it feels as if the rest of the world is against you... (singular) 'To snukker'.... Snuk (not to be confused with the official dish of Cape Town, the Snoek, which goes well with slap chips and vinegar), this Snuk is a powerful creature, able to withstand many storms and even boards of directors. Use in a sentence as follows: "The Snuk made it through another day, wiping sweat from his brow, pleased to have seen off both the MD and the Board to keep his offices with its bay windows in his Ivory Tower for a little while longer." Snukums: loyal followers of the Snuk. [Postscript: This column was penned with a branded gift from the SABC to all guests recently at a function: a pen with the words 'TRUTH' inscribed on it...] Enjoy! "But once you allow yourself to recognize necessity, you find two things: One you find your options so restricted that the only course of action is obvious, and, two, that a great sense of freedom comes with the decision."
