Many a retailer will sing to the tune of "The customer is always right", but not a lot actually live the phrase, much less invest any time or innovation in it. Luckily for you and I, this age of short-term vision is drawing to a close. Retailers can no longer put us in the consumer-only box - they have to take on a more human approach in reaching their sales targets.

MultiChoice Namibia literally took to the streets with its latest advertising campaign which was conceptualised together with advertising agency Ogilvy Namibia, a partner agency within the Ogilvy Africa network. The campaign makes use of a fleet of eight branded buses as an alternative to traditional outdoor advertising in the Namibian market.

Namibia Breweries has received four awards at this year's annual Deutsche Landwirtschafts Gesellschaft (DLG Society) in Berlin. This first-time entry won a Gold Award for Windhoek Lager and Windhoek Draught with two Silver Awards going to Windhoek Light and Tafel Lager.

A new digital broadcast system will bring remarkably better television signals to Namibians in Windhoek when it is launched in mid-February by DSTV. The system uses the same frequencies as the current analogue transmission, but provides much clearer pictures and better audio quality.

As an 'old' Namibian, I couldn't resist writing about the Windhoek Lager ad, "German engineering where you need it second most..." The "Windhoek" ad capitalises on this instant recognition with a luxury car manufacturer's slogan and the borrowed and re-worked pay-off line is certainly humorous for those in the know. Yet, I am in two minds about it.
