SA buys into Black Friday - 20 Nov 2017

By Lauren Hartzenberg, Retail Editor (@Biz_Retail)

The Black Friday and Cyber Monday mega-sales present an opportunity for consumers to save on Christmas shopping and allows retailers to boost sales and move stock before the festive season hits. With the shopping occasion of the Western world kicking off on 24 November, we've rounded the top local deals from SA retailers to be aware of. Happy shopping!

In other top news, Woolworths has consciously invested in technology to streamline and improve not only its online offering, but its in-store customer experience. Here, the retailer shares its digital strategy and how they believe it's paying off.

In fashion and decor news, Leigh Andrews chats to Tammy Holmes from newly-launched gifting store, Loveables, about opening a pop-up shop, the process of setting up with Shopify and feedback from customers so far; and respected local fashion designer Warrick Gautier shares some of the inspiration behind Fabiani's recent foray into womenswear.

We conclude with some interesting research findings. Nielsen shares insight into the evolution of South Africa's R35bn convenience retail sector, Spark Media shares what they've discovered about South African men and their attitudes towards personal care and grooming, and Juniper Research predicts that the value of digital coupon redemptions will surge to $91 billion by 2022.

All that and more. Enjoy!
