The management company, Newmark Hotels, brought in established interior design partner, Francois du Plesssis Interiors to completely renew the bathrooms in all rooms, suites and the penthouse of the hotel.

"Bringing 31 years of expertise and having been part of the original redesign of this attractive property, it made perfect sense for us to partner with Francois again. He understands the essence of the brand and this is evident in the end result," explained Neil Markovitz, MD of Newmark Hotels.

Quirky colour, texture and fabric combinations

As part of this extensive refurbishment, which has taken a mere three months, Du Plessis has also revamped the lobby, its wooden floors and lift. "My personal philosophy is that an interior creation should be indicative of the client, architecture and project. This project has really allowed us to have fun, playing with quirky colour, texture and fabric combinations, all selected to complement the art deco architecture and the brand's inherent nature," Du Plessis commented.

As a final step in the makeover, La Splendida's external gardens will be professionally landscaped further improving the overall aesthetic appeal of the hotel.

Markovitz concluded: "This upgrade has been very well received, as I believe it completes the cool, chic and modern look of the property, which also goes hand-in-hand with the new logo - a perfect match for the hotel's vibrant, trendsetting clientele."
