These awards are held as part of the ArcelorMittal Skills Development Summit. The Foundational Learning Competence (FLC) programme was submitted as part of the nomination process.

The FLC is a part qualification consisting of two learning areas: communications and mathematical literacy. These two subjects form a part qualification for many qualifications listed with the QCTO at NQF Level 3 and 4. It describes the minimum competence needed in these two key areas that is required by people to function optimally in the world of work.

"We are honoured to have been selected as the first runner-up in such a highly contested category. Over 120 nominations were received from various institutions, FET colleges and government departments. It makes me proud to know that our products and services are of such a high standard that they meet stringent criteria," said Jackie Carroll, CEO of Media Works.
