Twin City Development, in conjunction with Retail Network Services (RNS), analysed the existing retail facility and created a strategy and vision to enhance the mall, almost doubling its size to around 25,000sqm GLA, as part of a multi-million rand expansion.

It will accommodate some 86 stores, eateries and service outlets, adding over 20 new retailers, including the introduction of another anchor tenant, Shoprite, which is set to open a 3,000sqm store.

"Paledi Mall used to be a convenience centre of 12,500sqm and only had Spar, Jet, Pep and Nedbank as national tenants, with a strong furniture presence. Upon completion, the new mall will obtain semi-regional status for the community it serves. It will have two national food anchors (Spar and Shoprite), a full national fashion complement and ancillary financial services," says Johan Visagie, MD of Twin City Development.

"The existing centre is being strengthened with the addition of an array of new retailers, which will meet the growing needs of the Mankweng community and surrounding rural towns," says Gavin Tagg of RNS, a full-service specialist in retail leasing and development.

"In addition to Shoprite, other major national brands set to open on 30 October include Truworths, Identity, Total Sports, Ackermans, Mr Price, Edgars Active, Exact, John Craig, Markham, Foschini, Sportscene, Vodacom and Capitec, amongst others. The expanded mall is now fully let and Woolworths Textiles store will be opening its doors early 2015."

It also has a new food court area with the introduction of Debonairs, Nando's, Fish & Chip Co and Chesanyama.

In addition, it offers a number of fashion, speciality, health and beauty and furniture stores. It also offers the community convenient banking with Nedbank, Capitec and FNB Easy-plan.

"The quality of the design, finishes and signage at the revamped and expanded Paledi Mall will be comparable with any other contemporary shopping mall in South Africa," comments Tagg.

Located just off the R71 route between Polokwane and Tzaneen, it offers convenient free open-air parking for shoppers and the taxi rank, adjacent to the Mall, will further increase the centre's accessibility.
