Professor Tim Noakes will be at the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts (GIPCA) on Thursday, 8 October 2009, to discuss “The body is willing but the mind is weak. Or is it the other way around?”.
Noakes, co-founder of the Sports Science Institute of SA and respected academic within the field of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine, has long been acknowledged as an expert on endurance racing and ultra marathons - in particular the Comrades.

At each of the series of lectures, a leading intellectual discusses one of life's “big questions” or a significant book or artwork. The free hour-long lectures are open to the public, UCT staff and students. They start at 5pm and take place in Hiddingh Hall, at UCT's Hiddingh Campus, Orange Street, in the heart of Cape Town's CBD.

Further speakers during October in the Great Texts/Big Questions lecture series, include Angelo Gobbato, John Higgins and Carrol Clarkson.
