Table Mountain Cableway closed for annual maintenance and refurbishment
“Annual maintenance is carried out in order to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV),” says Cableway’s technical manager Gaziem du Toit. “Not only do we want to ensure that safety standards are maintained, but we also aim to improve our Cableway offering.”
Some infrastructure refurbishment will also be undertaken, including resurfacing of the Top Station pathways, refurbishing the toilets and retiling the departure and arrivals platforms at the Lower Station. Measures are also being put in place to introduce a virtual queuing system at the Top Station later this year.
Lastly, the Table Mountain Café is revamping its menu in order to showcase authentic South African cuisine. This new menu will be available when the Cableway re-opens after shutdown.
Visitors can take advantage of the Cableway specials that are on offer before and after the annual maintenance period. These include a free return ticket for adults on their birthday on presentation of a South African ID and the Kidz Season special that offers two children under 18 years a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (valid over weekends, public and school holidays until 30 September 2016).
Should your birthday fall within this annual maintenance closure period, you are entitled to redeem your complimentary Cableway birthday ticket one week before (18 – 24 July) or one week after (8 – 14 August) annual maintenance.
