Boitumelo Monamodi 214 Projects dress girls for matric dance

The Boitumelo Monamodi 214 Projects is a project initiated to honour the legacy of Monamodi who was head of fashion at Zooi. Her passion was to create dresses and especially dress girls for their matric dance, but she sadly passed away in November last year in a car accident.

This year 214 Projects will dress 25 young girls from disadvantaged families around the Vaal for their matric farewell events. Partners in this project will cover their hair, make-up and shoes, while Emfuleni staff will make their cars available to transport the girls to and from their various matric farewell venues.
The project forms part of the Vaal Varnival celebrations and the mayor of Emfuleni, Nomadlozi Greta Hlongwane will host 25 young girls for breakfast at the Riviera Hotel to motivate and inspire them for the future.

Matric dances in the townships are just a big a deal as it is in wealthier areas. This puts a lot of pressure on the parents to buy an expensive dress, sort out hair, nails and make-up and even hire a limo. Some of these young girls even end up selling their bodies to make up the money they going to need for their matric farewell. 214 Projects are hoping that this project will help to make these girls' matric dance a very special day.
