FNB Joburg Art Fair, Loop Barcelona collaborate

FNB Joburg Art Fair and Loop Barcelona are collaborating to broaden the Art Fair's existing platform for contemporary video artists from Africa, by presenting works to an international audience. The Fair will be presenting a work, originally conceived and premiered at the 2013 Art Fair in Johannesburg, by young South African artist Mohau Modisakeng on 5-7 June 2014 in Barcelona.

The video installation Inzilo is shot at a 4k resolution and deals with traditional customs of bereavement. Modisakeng has his first solo show, Ditaola, which opened yesterday, 29 May at Cape Town based gallery, Brundyn +.

Loop Barcelona sees some of the most discerning international collectors and curators of video art at its annual event. It was born in 2003 in Barcelona as the first fair exclusively devoted to video art, in order to provide the space, attitude and attention required by these practices. It has forged a strong community, coming equally from the concomitant fields of contemporary art and cinema throughout its 11 editions, and is the most efficient occasion to promote artists' video and film amidst a specialised audience.

Loop Barcelona will be present at this year's FNB Joburg Art Fair on 21-24 August at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Artlogic and the FNB Joburg Art Fair hope that this collaboration will continue through a series of co-curated future ventures around the medium.
