Tobacco firms speak plainly

NEWSWATCH: It seems that SA tobacco firms are concerned that if cigarette packaging laws similar to those passed in Australia are passed here, there will be an increase in smuggling, reports Times Live, and ITWeb reports that TopTV is using vouchers to attract subscribers.

  • Times Live: Tobacco firms cry foul... Now let's be plain about this... If cigarettes here in SA are packaged in plain boxes, smuggling of cigarettes will increase - or so the tobacco industry seems to believe.
  • ITWeb: TopTV woos viewers with vouchers... The prepaid voucher option has been launched with the aim of winning back lapsed subscribers and winning new ones.
