The following facilities have received accreditation awards from the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA). This is a not-for-profit organisation which has been working in South Africa for the past 17 years to improve the standard of healthcare in facilities.
These awards mean that the facilities meet the requirements of the global standards-setting body, the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). What is most encouraging is that two public sector hospitals in the Free State, Mafube District Hospital and the Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Regional Hospital have met these standards and both have been given full accreditation for two years. Health facilities are given three-year awards when there they have maintained a consistent accredited status over time with no lapses. When they are close to accreditation but need to put in extra work, they are awarded Intermediate with Focus Awards. This means they will most likely be accredited within the next six months.
