Last week was the turn of the magazine publishing industry in South Africa to be lauded for excellence at the 35th annual Sappi Pica Awards in Johannesburg. A fashion 'show' of note as the country's premier magazine editors glam it up, it is also a showcase for the page turning beauty of our top magazines. It really is obvious when one has the best mags on display at one venue, that SA can truly hold its head up high with the best of global publishing. And while it was a somewhat muted affair for a 35th birthday celebration, it was the winning publications that stole the show on the night. And at yet another cocktail party at yet another staid northern suburbs venue, this week is the turn of the newspaper industry as the winners of the Frewin, McCall and Joel Mervis Newspaper competitions are announced by Print Media SA at a function in Rosebank on Thursday.
