It's time for the industry to catch a wake-up. The extreme embarrassment of being the only industry to be investigated for racism in parliamentary hearings two years ago, will happen again unless marketers, media owners and aligned disciplines in the Creative Industries become part of the industry-led process to transform. We should be leading by example - given that advertising, media, marketing & communications are supposed to provide a reflection of civil society. No industry wants to face legislation to force empowerment and it doesn't help if you are one of a handful of progressive companies that has initiated empowerment - it's all about perception. The transformation workshop initiated by the Marketing Federation to kickstart the process towards an industry scorecard was appallingly attended and sends the wrong signals. "We are responsible for the soul of the nation and the media in particular should get behind this," commented Graham Langmead, ABC guru, at the workshop. And on this note, Bizcommunity.com will be offering full media support to the MFSA to assist it and BEE Monitor in conducting a benchmarking study and reporting results to the industry. There is no other more important industry-wide initiative out there - Bizcommunity.com calls on everyone to get on board and support the MFSA.
Have a good one...
