If you, like me, are still walking around with a big smile on your face at the excitement of winning the opportunity to host the 2010 Soccer World Cup, here's more food for thought: pundits predict that the status of host nation will provide a spin-off in every sector of our economy. Analyst Daniel Silke, writing for Bizcommunity.com at the weekend, points out: "Building the necessary capacity to host the games will involve South Africa in an infrastructural overhaul. Not only will construction boom, but South African (and hopefully African) companies will need to integrate at all levels with their international counterparts. The level of liaison and cross-border activities will develop a new understanding across continents. This bodes well for South African commerce and industry as it develops links with the outside world." The eyes of the world are upon us and we all have to work together to ensure the success of this event which could prove a unifying force within our country, as well as Africa. Laduma!
