Last week was a media news intensive week, with World Press Freedom Day highlighting the plight of journalists working around the world, as well as those countries where freedom of expression is under threat by curbs on the media. The power of the media to inspire revulsion with the publication of tabloid pictures of a dying Princess Diana was also juxtaposed with the power of the media to potentially bring down a President, with the appalling pictures of Iraqi prisoner torture flashed around the world - could this well be Bush's Watergate? Back home, the Mondi Awards for Newspaper journalism highlighted ethics in our craft, with editors being called on to promote excellence and professionalism more diligently. But with the Financial Mail's AdFocus awards and conference happening this week, hopefully adding a little levity and celebration with the recognition of the top agencies, campaigns and creative talent, it should be an exciting week.
Have a good one...
