The annual VUKA! Awards were presented on Thursday 21 November 2002 by MultiChoice Africa. The VUKA! challenge is to 'create a message that will make a difference' - it is an initiative to encourage the making of Public Service Announcements (PSAs) in Southern Africa, and was open to both newcomer and professional filmmakers this year.
The best overall PSA was awarded to 'Cricket', for the Sports Trust, directed by Sunu Gonera, Peter Gird Productions. The best newcomer PSA was awarded to 'Twisted Fates', made for HIV/Aids awareness, directed by Braam Jordaan, Universal Computer Arts Academy.
