Issues relating to gender and gender inequality have always been of interest to me, and I have made a concerted effort to work on those issues since I completed my undergraduate degree in 2005. My research into gender issues has instilled a great passion in me for talking about gender in the public sphere and I am incredibly committed to introducing marginalized voices into mainstream discussion.
I am a feminist writer and researcher currently working at Parliament for the Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs which has dealt with women's issues since 2014. Prior to that I was with the Select Committee on Women, Children and People with Disbilities. In 2012 I worked as a freelance writer and have worked primarily with women's rights NGOs in South Africa.
In 2010 I began the My First Time women's writing project which encouraged women to submit stories of their significant first time experiences. This project has now published over 200 stories from over 100 women online and has been published by Modjaji books in 2012.
In 2011 I started Feminists SA - a website aimed at bringing feminist analyses back into the fore of women's thinking and discussion. I created and designed the website myself, sourced writers and writing and I am also a contributor. I have also contributed to Thoughtleader.co.za (the Mail and Guardian blog) since 2009 and Women24.com since 2013.
These projects have allowed me to develop an incredible network of writers, media contacts and digital experts who I believe will be valuable assets in the role of gender specialist, particularly in relation to the sharing and dissemination of information. They have also equipped me with social media and website development skills which are excellent ways to engage with the public on issues that affect them.
Specialties: Qualitative research and analysis. Database management. Project management, Social media, Writing, Editing
