Guest speaker at the 2018 Produce Marketing Association's (PMA's), Fresh Connections: Southern Africa Conference and Trade Show, Coillard Hamusimbi of the Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) in Zambia continued his presentation on fresh produce trade in Africa by noting how: "African agriculture has greater opportunities than ever before. I do not recall a time when agriculture had such a centre position in terms of wanting to drive this continent to the next level economically, socially and otherwise. More so for fresh produce. Fresh produce will continue to lead the markets."

The top 10 nominees in the African Innovation Foundation's (AIF) Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA) 2018 have been announced. Under the theme 'African innovation: Investing in inclusive innovation ecosystems', this year saw more than 3,000 applications from 52 African countries. Submissions this year demonstrate significant breakthroughs in ICT, agri-business, public health and the environment/energy sectors to improve the lives and economic prospects of Africans.

Food losses and waste are an enormous drain on natural resources. Roughly one-third of the annual food produced globally for human consumption - approximately 1.3 billion tonnes - is lost or wasted. These losses are particularly unfortunate in Africa where approximately 20% of the population is undernourished.
