More than 400 deaf and hearing-impaired people nationwide have found an opportunity for gainful employment within the Shoprite Group, thanks to the retailer's Decade of the Deaf Project in partnership with Employ and Empower Deaf (eDeaf) over the past six years. South Africa now has the sixth-highest number of shopping centres of any country in the world, boasting almost 2,000 shopping centres with a floor area covering 23,000,000m², according to Nomzamo Radebe, the newly appointed President of the South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC), who gave this insight as the SACSC's 19th Annual Congress got underway in Durban. Radebe is CEO of JHI Properties, part of Excellerate Property Services Group.

Woolworths Holdings has announced the appointment of John Dixon as CEO of David Jones. He replaces Iain Nairn, who resigned for personal reasons. Nairn, who has led the business for the last 14 months, has agreed to stay on for a period of three months to work with the business in an advisory capacity to ensure a seamless handover.

According to the 2015 Food and Beverage Consumer Survey, 24% of consumers indicated that the food and beverage offerings available within a shopping centre are fairly important when deciding which shopping centre to visit, a further 35% considered this to be very important with an additional 26% considering this extremely important.
