    Air Mauritius launches Wellness and Wellbeing Programme

    Air Mauritius has launched a Wellness and Wellbeing Programme with the support of like-minded island partners, realising a long-standing dream for Air Mauritius regional manager, southern Africa and Latin America, Carla da Silva.

    Da Silva said: "Human capital is a critical component of any organisation and, as such, should be allocated the full attention it deserves. When evaluating the physical and emotional wellness of employees, management can assess the individual health risks to the company, as well as the future sustainably of its workforce and, indeed, the business as a whole."

    In encouragement of employee wellness strategies moving forward, Air Mauritius presents a unique offering, encompassing both a focus on corporate, as well as leisure travel, to Mauritius.

    "This rational is aligned with wellbeing and the frightening statistics we are all familiar with - in relation to excessive and disproportionate stress levels in South Africa, and across the globe. Air Mauritius is proud to launch a Wellness and Wellbeing Programme aimed at corporate executives, group strategy sessions, incentives, MICE travel and more - to the idyllic island of Mauritius," expounded Da Silva.

    Travel partners

    Various travel partners have come on board to provide accommodation in a serene and tranquil location, over a four- to five-night retreat package. Only four hours from Joburg and Durban, and six hours from Cape Town, with no visa requirements; travel packages are being tailored according to each client's individual and exacting needs. Travel is typically offered from a Thursday (outbound) to a Monday, returning to SA fully revived and invigorated.

    Air Mauritius ensures that the body, mind and spirit of its passengers are its core focus, from the moment these (often) exhausted vessels board its fleet of 12 aircraft. A series of inflight broadcast inserts have been produced, to impart valuable advice on how to perform a number of beneficial stretches, as well as what to eat and drink while in transit; this in order to ensure that the first step towards the journey of health, wealth and happiness begins in the island in the sky.

    The programme encompasses:

  • A special fare, offered at a highly reduced rate to land partners, in order to structure competitive travel packages (land and air);
  • Excess baggage benefits for retail therapy and golf on the island, where applicable;
  • Business lounge access, despite travelling in economy class, as per the package that will be structure; and
  • Value adds at each resort will be structured and include by way of example: spa treatments, meditation, yoga, group workshops, individual coaching sessions, health assessments, and more.

    Da Silva added: "Furthermore, Air Mauritius has partnered renowned Quick Shift Deva, Kate Emmerson, who will be shaping each respective and introspective retreat agenda, ensuring a highly personalised and specialised initiative, delivered at the utmost level of professionalism."

    Over the past ten years, Emmerson has been assisting local, as well as international clutter collectors to live light, live large. She has experienced at first-hand how much company time is wasted through ineffectiveness and a stressful, stress-filled work environment.

    Emmerson asks her clients to imagine their employees walking into a calm yet productive office space, fully prepared, with unnecessary interruptions eliminated and emails effectively processed. This ultimately translates into optimal time management and key deadlines being met, which has a direct and positive impact on the company's bottom line.

    A couple of themes, which Emmerson is currently presenting on the island, include:

  • Ignite Your Life: Goal setting/introspection/self-limiting beliefs/planning the year. Aimed at professional corporate clients. Mixed male/female group.
  • Power-up Productivity: Slow down to speed up, de-cluttering and the power of letting go physically, emotionally and physiologically. Aimed at highly stressed executives (male and female) wanting to lead more balanced lifestyle and increase productivity. Combined with communication skills.

    Emmerson said: "My life work is centred around assisting weary souls to stop and reflect on life and where they are headed. The most effective way to maximise life is to defrag and remove oneself from the hustle and bustle of being busy - being willing to slow down and go within. Carla, together with her Air Mauritius team, is a hugely positive and infectious brand, which goes the extra mile to ensure impeccable travel."

    According to a recent white paper, distributed by the Corporate Governance Framework Research Institute (CGF); organisations that employ global best practices in employee wellness programmes generally report greater employer and employee risk reductions, when compared to those companies that do not.

    Moreover, such organisations also report:

  • Increased levels of employee commitment;
  • Improved employee wellness programme participation;
  • Increased workforce productivity and morale, as well as
  • Reduced absenteeism, "presenteeism" and health-care claims.

    Emmerson's first experience of the island was made possible by Lux Resorts. "Offering a radically re-conceptualised island encounter, the group is dedicated to showcasing a lighter, brighter experience, which affords the perfect backdrop and canvas for re- invigorating one's life. Aligning with these two world-class brands is an incredible honour and I know that we will have a profound impact on every single person who chooses to join our Wellness Retreats on the magical island of Mauritius," concluded Emmerson.
