Kagga Kamma's calling you

Do you need to get away from it all, I mean truly get away and unwind where technology, cellular contact, or electronics can't tempt you to step back into everyday life?

If you do, then surely a self-catering haven that would be ideal for a romantic getaway, family bonding time, retreat, soul searching, or time out. If you like the quiet delights of nature, hiking, views, fresh air, quietness and relaxing this is for you. Set in the pristine southern hills of the Cederberg Mountains there is a small piece of solitude called Kagga Kamma - and the place to stay is Kagga Kamma Private Game Reserve.

Kagga Kamma is rich with cultural heritage and a guided walk through the mountains takes you back to when the first humans walked the plains and painted their thoughts on the rock face. There are also guided open 4x4 safaris which allow guests the opportunity to learn more about plants and animals. What's more, once back, you can marvel at the night sky through a powerful telescope. Kagga Kamma offers fun for the whole family, including quad biking, hiking trails, and bird watching or relaxing at the pool.

The accommodation is luxurious and has all of the home comforts waiting for you, fresh towels and extra blankets, heaters, indoor fire, private outside braai with wood and bread delivered daily on request and a daily cleaning service make it the 4 star establishment it is. We enjoyed it at winter and this was an ideal place to go rest and snuggle.

The staff are all incredibly friendly, which must take a lot if you consider all they have is the 47 employees around them and the guests that come and enjoy the reserve. Also being an hour from civilisation must be somewhat testing.

Nicholas, our qualified guide, was extremely knowledgeable and noticeably passionate about everything he imparted on the nature drives, rock painting and echo trips and game viewing drives. He was unable to give me an exact amount of wildlife but a word of caution, do not expect to see a lot.

The best of both worlds

... Or would you like this... just as comfortable?

Only three hours away from Cape Town and offering some awesome deals throughout the year, Kagga Kamma is the perfect place to escape to - either just with your partner for some romance or with the whole family to spend some quality time together. They also offer a childcare/ babysitting service so you may have the best of both worlds. It is also a great place for team-building sessions or company getaways, the choices are almost endless.

I would recommend visiting during the summer months to fully enjoy all the activities available, but then of course be sure to book in advance. The final hour of the drive is gravel, although not a necessity, this would be more comfortable in a 4x4. If you can manage it, be the passenger - the views are utterly breathtaking.
