HP dumps tablets, phones, computers

Hewlett-Packard plans to sell its personal computer business, stop manufacturing its TouchPad tablet and its webOS mobile phones and focus on software development after it announced that it had bought British-based Autonomy for US$10 billion.

In a number of media articles published by Bloomberg, the British Broadcasting Corporation and Fin24 trading in the company's shares was suspended on Wall Street yesterday.

At the time of the suspension, the shares were trading a US$30,42 - 3,1% down from their closing level on Wednesday.

Fin24 says that the company is now looking at "strategic alternatives" for its Personal System Group, which makes a range of computers. Its webOS mobile phone division was bought from Palm in a deal worth US$1,2 billion last year.
