The CharterCapital Advisory team has been crowned the national champion at the South African final GBC 2015, the international business competition held by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

They also had to participate in a question and answer session before a panel of judges.

Team Bernoulli from the University of the Free State impressed the judges and were named the runner ups in the competition. Christiaan Paulsen, Sias Conradie, Jannie de Wet and Frikkie Jacobs are the four actuarial science students that comprise this team.

First in history

2015 is the first year in the history of the GBC that we have had three all black teams in the final, this shows that the GBC is helping to highlight young black business and accounting talent in south Africa.

"The standard of all the competitors was very high and it was a privilege to witness such extraordinary performances. The global final will give the team a chance to represent the brightest and best of South Africa's emerging business talent. I'm sure they will rise to the challenge and I wish them every success," Zahra Cassim, CIMA South Africa manager, said.

"As the world's leading and largest management accounting body, we pride ourselves on supporting the development of business professionals with the skills and knowledge that employers demand. The Global Business Challenge is an extension of this mission, helping us to identify the next generation of business leaders, nurture their abilities and provide them with a unique career-enhancing experience," commented Andrew Harding, managing director of CIMA.
