Environmental management news Thousands assisted after Cape Town floodsThe city of Cape Town has stepped-up its relief efforts and disaster response teams have assisted 2 566 people in the flood-stricken areas by providing hot meals, food parcels, clothing, blankets, and plastic sheeting, spokesman Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said over the weekend. He said between Friday and Sunday evening the city attended to 348 calls where roads, property and informal areas needed attention, of which 321 were resolved and the remaining 27 incidents would be sorted out on Monday. "The city also attended to 839 blocked drains and sewer systems that were overflowing and cleared 38 trees that were blocking roads." He said the city's electricity services dealt with 1 545 calls and the city's disaster risk management centre and other relevant departments remained on high alert on Sunday evening, he said.
