Motor trade sales up 16.7% y/y in May

Motor trade sales rose by 16.7% year on year in May‚ figures from Statistics SA released on Thursday. 19 July 2012, showed.
The highest annual growth rate was recorded for new vehicle sales (27.7%)‚ followed by sales of accessories (15.0%)‚ fuel sales (13.9%) and workshop income (13.7%)

In May 2012‚ seasonally adjusted motor trade sales increased by 3.2% month on month‚ following month on month changes of 2.6% in April and -1.2% in March.

Seasonally adjusted motor trade sales for the three months ended May increased by 4.2% compared with the three months ended February.

Motor trade sales for the three months ended May 2012 increased by 12.7% compared with the three months ended May 2011.

Sales for the corresponding period in 2011 increased by 12.4%.

The major contributors to the increase of 12.7% were new vehicle sales (18.3% and contributing 5.0 percentage points)‚ fuel sales (14.6% and contributing 4.0 percentage points) and sales of accessories (10.7% and contributing 1.9 percentage points).
