Chatterjee's music is inspired by the sound of the late Pandit Nikhil Banerjee. His music combines the tone and richness of the Nikhil Banerjee style and a contemporary touch of his own urbane sensitivity. Chatterjee received the President of India award for the Best Instrumentalist of the country at the age of 15.

Chatterjee has conceptualised the ground-breaking project Shastriya Syndicate: the first Indian classical band with a contemporary touch. He has designed the "Dwo" which is a doppelganger of the Indian sitar. Dwo is a manifestation of the contemporary, urbane personality of his music. Chatterjee's music has been equally appreciated by jazz greats and has performed many times with tabla stalwart Ustad Zakir Hussain.

    From Shankar to The Jam

Talvin Singh was born in London. His upbringing in a vibrant and multicultural city and the sacred heritage of Indian classical and folk music provided an inspiring background. His tastes ranged from Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ustad Alla Rakha to local bands like The Jam. At the age of 15 Singh became a disciple of the great academic and musician Lachman Singh Seen of Punjab. After spending an initial three years learning he returned to London with a lifelong endeavour in mastering his instrument and upholding the traditions of the Punjab Gharana.

Singh is a producer, composer and tabla player, known for creating an innovative fusion of Indian classical music and drum and bass. He is generally considered involved with an electronica sub-genre called 'Asian underground', and more recently as Indian and/or Asian electronica. After collaborating with Siouxsie and the Banshees and Björk in the early 1990s, Singh released his debut album "OK", which received the Mercury Music Prize in 1999. Singh has since collaborated with a variety of acts including Madonna and Massive Attack. Singh has also collaborated with Michael Brook on a remix of the works of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for RealWorld Records.
