Getaway magazine will host its inaugural tourism trade symposium, 'Uhambo lwakho 2010! - Your Journey Beyond 2010', at the Coca Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg on 10 September 2010. Key industry stakeholders, representing tourism boards, accommodation owners, travel agents, tour operators and hotel groups will explore current trends and opportunities.
Discussions will focus on the economy and its impact on tourism, current trends in the marketplace, the revision of the star grading system, responsible tourism and opportunities for growth post-World Cup. Confirmed speakers include Mariƫtte du Toit-Hembold, CEO of Cape Town Tourism; Hannelie Slabber, global manager: Product of SA Tourism (SATSA); Robyn Christie, CEO of the Association of SA Travel Agents (ASATA); and Jennifer Seif, executive director of the Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA).

"As one of the dominant players in the travel industry, it makes sense for us to extend our influence and support by providing the sector with a platform to share best practices and learning," commented Getaway publisher Jacqueline Lahoud.

"Our aim is to make this conference a benchmark event on the industry's calendar; one that will both position it as central to the discussion on travel and tourism and serve to update the industry on the latest challenges and trends, different viewpoints, shared successes and developments within the sector."

The conference is being held alongside the Getaway Show and is scheduled for the first day of the expo, traditionally a trade day. Go to www.getawayconference.co.za for more information.
